There is a less-known way to decrease your speed and get further in the game: by hitting an obstacle! Yes, it might sound extreme, but obstacles slow you down. Indeed, hitting an obstacle also decreases your hit points, but sometimes getting the mission done is more important.

However, do not make any assumptions about the mines. They just take your hit points.
